Stays for couples

Mudgee Accommodation for Couples

A private house with a wood fire, a fire pit and cellar doors across the road. No shared walls, no front desk, no reason to rush.

The idea

The whole house, for two

Most romantic getaway listings are a single room with a view. That is fine for one night. For a weekend, the thing that actually makes a trip feel like a break is space: somewhere to make coffee at your own pace, a lounge that is not a bed, and a door that nobody else has a key to.

The Landscapers Rest gives a couple the entire house. Two queen bedrooms, a lounge with a wood fireplace, a full kitchen, a covered veranda and a fire pit. There are no other guests on the property and no reception. You arrive when you arrive, let yourself in, and that is the last piece of admin for two days.

Why it works

Four things that make the difference

The Landscapers Rest at golden hour, Mudgee
Privacy

Nobody else in the building

No shared walls, no corridor, no other guests, no housekeeping knocking at 9am. The property is yours from arrival to checkout.

The fire

A wood fire inside, a fire pit outside

The lounge has a wood fireplace and there is a fire pit in the yard with firewood provided. Pour a local shiraz, sit outside, and the evening handles itself.

Mudgee cellar doors
The location

Wine across the road, dinner down the hill

Two cellar doors are directly across the road and the town centre is a three minute drive or a twenty minute walk, so you can drink properly at least one of those days.

Room for four

Bring the other couple, or do not

Two queen bedrooms means the house works just as well as a shared weekend for two couples as it does for one. Same house, split cost.

What a weekend for two tends to look like

Arrive Friday afternoon, let yourselves in, walk across the road for a tasting before the cellar door closes, then cook something simple and light the fire.

Saturday is the day to spread out: a long lunch somewhere like The Zin House or Pipeclay Pumphouse, a couple of cellar doors either side of it, and a slow drive back through the valley. If the market is on, that is a good excuse to be up early.

Sunday morning is the one worth setting an alarm for once. Sunrise hot air balloon flights drift over the vineyards and river flats, and it is the sort of thing people book a Mudgee trip around rather than tack onto one.

Questions from couples

Is the house suitable for just two people?

Yes. The house sleeps four but there is no minimum group size, so a couple gets both bedrooms, the whole lounge, the kitchen and the veranda to themselves.

Can two couples share the house?

Comfortably. There are two bedrooms, each with its own queen bed, plus a shared bathroom, lounge and kitchen. It is a common way people use the place for a wine weekend.

Is there a fireplace?

There is a wood fireplace in the lounge, and a fire pit outside with firewood provided. Between the two, winter is arguably the best time to come.

Can we walk to a cellar door?

Two cellar doors are directly across the road from the house, so at least one tasting each trip does not need a designated driver.

Can we walk into town for dinner?

The town centre is about a twenty minute walk, or a three minute drive. Plenty of people walk in for dinner on a mild evening and take a car or a lift back.

Is check-in private?

Entirely. Self check-in via a lockbox means there is no front desk, no handover and nobody to talk to unless you want to.
